Total War: The World Under Fire

Adolf Hitler's plan of dominating Europe started when he commenced Blitzkreig or "Lighting War", a suprise attack on Poland in September 1, 1939 and in the same month, Poland was defeated and was divided among Germany and Soviet Russia. To suppress aid from the United Kingdom, Germany used deployed submarines into United Kingdom waters and destroyed British envoys crossing the British Channel. In the Spring of 1940, Hitler's army began a number of conquests which eventually took control of France, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands. During that same Spring, Italy joins the Axis side. The Nazi army conquered most of Europe but Great Britain is their only problem. In autumn 1940, the Nazi airfoce, the Luftwaffe began a series of effective and devisating air attacks on the city of Britain, however, they were not able to conquer Britain due to their advanced radar system and the RAF (Royal Air Force) were able to hold the Luftwaffe back, but with fourty thousand civilians killed.

Hitler turned against his peace treaty with Russia when he commenced Operation Barbarossa, the German suprise invasion in June 1941. During that campaign, the Nazi army was able to capture the Russian heartland, Stalindgrad and they also put Leningrad undersiege which both events resulted in over one million casualties. The Blitzkreig method was less effective against the Russians due to the mass amount of troops the Russian army had. Hitler underestimated Soviet Russia's industrial capacity. During the winter of 1941, the German army was ill-prepared for Russia's harsh winter which supressed German conquests.

On the other side of the world, Japan began it's conquests of dominating the Pacific. They expanded their reach into southeast Asia; taking Indochina states in 1940-1941. In response to this conquest, the United States put an embargo on the import of oil to Japan and requests Japan to leave China as soon as possible. After these requests, Prime Minister Tojo Hikedi developed a plan of attack. This plan was put into affect during December 7th 1941, when the Japanese armed forces attacked the naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The whole US naval pacific fleet was destroyed, immbolizing the force temporarily. Shorty after, President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan, Nazi Germany and Italy. After the Japanese victory of Pearl Harbor, Japan swiftly attacked and conquered the Philippines, the Dutch Indies, Burma, Indochina and Singapore.

After these attacks from the Axis force, Soviet Russia and the United States created a peace treaty which dramatically increased the Allied military machine power. With this peace treaty, there was a rise of Allied victories after 1943. The Russians defeated Germany in Stalingrad which pushed them back towards Germany, US and British troops invaded northern Africa and then Italy, the most famous beach landings in history was commenced on the coast of Normandy, France in June 6, 1944 which is remembered as the "D-Day Invasion", the US and British air force began a series of around the clock bombings which leveled Germany cities. A lot of stress was put against the Nazi's because they were back in Germany, trying to defend Berlin from being over ran. The Russians pushed into Berlin and before being over ran, Hitler commited suicide, ending the war in Europe.

In the Pacfic, the war was in favor the United States as they defeated the Japanese in the Battle of Midway which turned the tide of the Pacific war. The Americans used a method of island hopping which put them closer to Japan for air attacks. The Japanese began foritifying they're last key islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, before the Americans ventured close enough to Japan. The battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa were savage and brutal. In the end, both army's suffered an immense amount of casualties, but this put America even closer to Japan. Now with Japanese territory in American hands, they American began a series of firebombing raids on Japanese cities like Tokyo which heavily devistated the civilian population. Behind the scenes of the war, America was creating a new weapon that could eradicated whole cities. That weapon was the atomic bomb. The highly advanced weapon was used against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 1945. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were eradicated with little suvivors, who ever survive suffered radiation poisoning. Russia also declared war on Japan which put a huge amount of stress on the Japanese. The Japanese emperor surrendered unconditionally on August 15, 1945 and this ended World War II.
